Autumn Spice Latte
MAKE THIS WITH: Cuisinart Coffee Center Barista Bar
Ingredients:
Autumn Spice Simple Syrup (Makes about 2/3 cup):
2 cinnamon sticks
1 star anise pod
3 cardamom pods
½ teaspoon whole cloves
½ teaspoon black peppercorns
1 ½-inch piece fresh gingerroot, sliced
½ cup water
½ cup granulated sugar
Latte:
Ground espresso for a single shot (or an espresso capsule, if using a capsule machine)
4 ounces milk
2 tablespoons Autumn Spice Simple Syrup (see above)
Directions:
Combine the syrup ingredients in a small saucepan. Set over medium-low heat. Bring to a slight simmer, and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and allow to steep for 30 minutes.
Chill completely prior to using. Note: This syrup can be prepared in advance and stored in an airtight jar for up to 2 weeks.
Brew the espresso for a single shot.
Put the milk and the 2 tablespoons syrup into the frothing pitcher or a large mug. Using the steaming wand, steam the milk mixture until the foam has almost reached the top of the pitcher and you can feel that the milk is quite hot. Tap the pitcher a few times to remove any larger bubbles.
Slowly pour the steamed milk mixture into the mug with the espresso.
Serve immediately.
