Autumn Spice Latte

MAKE THIS WITH: Cuisinart Milk Frother

 

Ingredients:

Autumn Spice Simple Syrup (Makes about 2/3 cup):

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 star anise pod

  • 3 cardamom pods

  • ½ teaspoon whole cloves

  • ½ teaspoon black peppercorns

  • 1 ½-inch piece fresh gingerroot, sliced

  • ½ cup water

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Latte:

  • Ground espresso for a single shot (or an espresso capsule, if using a capsule machine)

  • 4 ounces milk

  • 2 tablespoons Autumn Spice Simple Syrup (see above)

Directions:

  1. Combine the syrup ingredients in a small saucepan. Set over medium-low heat. Bring to a slight simmer, and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and allow to steep for 30 minutes.

  2. Chill completely prior to using. Note: This syrup can be prepared in advance and stored in an airtight jar for up to 2 weeks.

  3. Brew your espresso.

  4. Put the milk and the 2 tablespoons syrup into the frothing pitcher and froth until the foam has almost reached the top of the pitche. Tap the pitcher a few times to remove any larger bubbles.

  5. Slowly pour the steamed milk mixture into the mug with the espresso. 

  6. Serve immediately.
