Coffee snobs of the world (we're looking at us, Portland) are united on one thing: the best cup of coffee is made via the single-cup, pour-over method, using Hario coffee tools. Strangely enough, the Hario Buono kettle, the Hario hand-crank coffee grinder, Hario coffee dripper cones, and Hario paper filters are made in Japan, a country steeped in hundreds of years to tea culture. Here's a thorough pictorial guide to the pour-over method, courtesy of Portland's Stumptown Coffee Roasters.

The Hario coffee grinder, called the Skerton, gives you complete control over grinding fresh beans. It employs two adjustable ceramic burrs to grind, not chop, beans, creating ground coffee that is uniform in particle size without introducing flavor-robbing heat in the process. The range of adjustment allows you to finely grind coffee for an espresso machine or create coase grounds for a pot of French press coffee. The glass jar does double duty as a receptacle for ground coffee and for storing beans with the airtight lid in place. A non-slip rubber base keeps the grinder in place while you work, and the handle is easily removable for storage or for taking the Skerton on the road. 7.5" tall.
